1. Operator and scope

Douglas Sutherland personally operates mrsutherland.net and its public CHARLOTTE demo at charlotte.mrsutherland.net as an independent personal educational project. Contact dsuth10@gmail.com about privacy. This policy covers those public services. External websites and separately installed software have their own privacy arrangements.

2. The main privacy boundary

No student or teacher accounts are required. The covered classroom tools do not upload learner answers, results, projects, photographs or recordings to the operator’s servers. Work is processed in the visitor’s browser. Visiting a website still produces technical requests needed to deliver and protect it. We do not request student submissions or maintain a central student gradebook. There is no advertising, sale of personal information, behavioural profiling, session replay or optional visitor-tracking analytics operated by this site.

3. Browser work, saves and exports

Depending on the tool, browser storage such as localStorage, sessionStorage or IndexedDB can hold progress, preferences, names or nicknames, answers, annotations, images, audio and project files. Other work lasts only for a tab or session. Importing a supported file into a classroom tool reads it on your device without submitting it to the operator. Other people using the same browser profile may see local saves. Clearing browser data, private browsing, device management or storage limits can remove work. Download needed work first. Exports such as JSON, project archives and finished media use your browser’s download controls and may contain information you entered. You decide whether to share them with a teacher or another service. The operator cannot access, remotely erase, recover or restore device-local work.

4. Camera and microphone

Tools such as Raynah Stop Motion can request camera or microphone permission for an activity you choose. Browser controls let you allow, deny or revoke access. Captured material stays in local work or exports and is not uploaded to the operator. Obtain appropriate permission before recording people and follow adult guidance. Media files and exports can contain identifying information.

5. CHARLOTTE demonstration

The public CHARLOTTE demo uses fictional examples. Edits are held only in page memory, are not sent to a backend and disappear when the page reloads or closes. There is no real-data import or server-save facility, and the demo does not access a live school database. Do not enter real names, student records or confidential timetable information.

6. Necessary hosting information

Hostinger provides hosting. Delivery, security and abuse prevention can involve records such as IP addresses, request times, requested URLs, response codes, browser/device information and referrer information sent by the browser. Providers and authorised administrators may access relevant records for those purposes, troubleshooting or legal requirements. These records are distinct from learner work. Do not put personal information in URLs. Hosting and related processing may occur overseas. We do not promise Australian-only hosting or a fixed visitor-log deletion period: the account-specific location and retention period have not been confirmed. Provider retention depends on service operation and legal requirements. See Hostinger’s privacy policy. We do not add optional analytics trackers or advertising cookies. Browsers may cache website files and retain the local saves described above.

7. External resources

Common fonts and scripts are served from this website to reduce automatic third-party connections. External media and reference images prepared for these pages require your choice before loading. Loading an external resource or following a link can disclose IP addresses, browser details and other request information to that provider, which may use cookies or process information overseas under its own policy. The operator does not control those services. Do not submit student information to them through this site.

8. Emails, reports and retention

If you email dsuth10@gmail.com, the operator receives your address, message, attachments and anything else you choose to send. Gmail, provided by Google, processes correspondence and may process it overseas; see Google’s privacy policy. Messages are used to handle the report or enquiry, not for marketing. Technical support is not offered. Please do not send student work, names, photographs, assessment or health records, passwords or other confidential information. Unnecessary student information received accidentally will be removed promptly where practicable. Resolved site-related correspondence is normally deleted within 12 months of resolution, unless needed for an ongoing issue or legal requirement. Provider backups and technical records may follow separate retention processes.

9. Disclosure and your choices

Information is not sold. Disclosure is limited to providers needed to operate the service or correspondence, authorised assistance necessary to investigate an issue, and circumstances permitted or required by law, including lawful requests or protecting people from serious harm. Only information needed for the purpose should be shared. Use the resources without an account or email, decline recording permissions, control local saves and choose whether to load external resources.

10. Requests, children and policy changes

Ask dsuth10@gmail.com for access to, correction of or deletion of personal information held by the operator, or to raise a privacy complaint. Requests are assessed subject to applicable law and reasonable identity checks; do not send identity documents or student records without an agreed necessary, suitable arrangement. Device-local work must be managed on that device. You may contact the relevant privacy regulator where it has jurisdiction. Children should ask a teacher, parent or carer for help. Adults should supervise recordings, shared devices and exports. This policy is reviewed when features or providers change; significant data-handling changes will be explained before introducing the changed practice.
